The Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust (APPCT) is thrilled to announce the grand reopening of its historic Theatre following an extensive, multimillion-pound restoration. This ambitious project, made possible by the generous funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Haringey Council, is set to breathe new life into this iconic venue.
A Spectacular Opening Programme
To celebrate this momentous occasion, the Theatre will host a special one-off performance by the BBC Concert Orchestra for the Proms on 1 September. Following this event, the Theatre will temporarily close to complete the final touches of the restoration, with an official reopening scheduled for 1 December 2018.
A Rich History Revived
Originally opened in 1875, the Theatre has a storied past, having hosted a variety of spectacular productions. Over the years, it has served as a chapel, cinema, and even a BBC prop store and workshop. For over 80 years, it has not been used for regular performances, making this restoration a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to revive its historical significance.
Join the Restoration Effort
The public is invited to support the restoration of the Theatre through a fundraising campaign, offering a unique opportunity to name a seat in the Theatre. Notable supporters who have named a seat include Sandi Toksvig, Neil Morrissey, and Hugo Speer. Donations of £25 or more will be commemorated on a donor board in the East Court, celebrating the public’s vital role in restoring the People’s Palace.
