Jao Tsung-I Academy, Hong Kong

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Jao Tsung-I Academy was developed by the Hong Kong Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture. The former Lai Chi Kok Hospital, a Grade III historic building, was transformed into a dynamic complex for promoting cultural activities. The site reconstruction included landscaped gardens, galleries, exhibition halls, restaurant, theatre, 19 classrooms/workshops, information and resources centres and reading rooms.

SOLUTION

We designed a bespoke seating solution encompassing 84 chairs over 8 platforms, with an additional 10 nose mounted row zero chairs to maximise capacity within the venue. The fully upholstered Gallery 2 chairs installed feature dual-action gas struts and a bespoke near-silent tipping mechanism to meet the clients’ exacting standards. The system also featured integral folding side rails with mesh infill, upholstered auto-tip armrests and decorative side drapes. The finished installation provides a high-quality, tiered seating system that can be used for a variety of events including Theatre performances and educational lectures.

Hussey Seatway worked in collaboration with the local dealer ‘Green Materials’ at both the design and installation stage which led to a successful outcome with all deliverables being met.
