Project overview

Scandic Falkoner

Hotel

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

Scandic is the largest hotel company in the Nordic countries with a network of about 280 hotels, in more than 130 destinations. The company is the leader when it comes to integrating sustainability in all operations and its award-winning Design for All concept ensures that Scandic hotels are accessible to everyone.

The client required a complete replacement of telescopic platforms and seating for their venue. The existing system was only a few years old but had very poor quality and reliability, and so, understandably, the client was determined that the replacement system would be of high quality, comfort, ease of use and last for a long time.

What ensued were various detailed meetings with the client and project team, going through all desired operational requirements and design, along with ensuring we adhered to all local codes and standards.

The end result is an installed seating system that the client and their staff members are exceedingly pleased with, and a project that we are very proud of.

Solution

The project has many interesting features, along with newly designed elements, that result in a system that meets all the client’s aims and wishes, along with the operation change times between the different modes being under the set time frames.

The venue layout has fixed seating on the rear balcony and on the side balconies, where a number of the seats are removable due to the removable control desk area and where not needed for access and sightlines for particular configuration setups. In front of the telescopic seating, flat floor chairs are provided. These flat floor chairs are in banks of up to eleven seats and can have the integral transport wheels very quickly deployed for quick and easy setup and removal. Low-level floor bars enable accurate and fast setup.

The main telescopic bank is 20 rows high and nearly 27m wide. It features a midway crosswalk, which has deployable bridge structures for access to the side balconies, along with two rear access stairways that exit into the aisles halfway up the seating rows. The aisles have DMX-controlled LED lighting, and mains sockets are provided in certain areas on the platforms for the cleaning staff’s vacuum cleaners. A large control desk area is provided centrally on the platform bank, with all elements quickly and easily removable to revert to full seating when not required.

When the telescopic seating bank is fully retracted, it is required to have walkthrough areas from the rear towards the stage. Therefore, the rear access stairways and aisleways on the lower rows in front needed to be removable. To achieve this, while maintaining a quick changeover time, the stairways and aisle platforms were constructed in a modular design that is movable on braked casters, with quick-release clamps to secure together and to the telescopic platform bank.
